What is EMDR?

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprogramming. It is a therapy used to help people recover from distressing events and the problems they have caused, like flashbacks, upsetting thoughts or images, depression or anxiety.

EMDR is recognised by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) as a treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) although you don't need to have PTSD to benefit from EMDR.

When using EMDR, the mind and body's natural healing abilities are awakened by using eye movements or bilateral tapping. Sessions are weekly and can be for an hour or sometimes 90 minutes.
